The Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology of the United Arab Emirates has announced by publishing a report that it has joined BRICS partners in order to set up an industrial competence center.
According to Amac News: The report states that the UAE Ministry of Industry has joined with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) to support the development of industrial skills and capabilities.
It was announced at the 8th meeting of BRICS industry ministers and the ministries of industry, trade and technology from the UAE, Russia, Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Iran and South Africa gathered. The meeting will be held under the chairmanship of Russia under the theme of "Strengthening multilateralism for equitable global development and security".
The Center will promote partnerships within the New Industrial Revolution (NIR) framework to identify interests, challenges and opportunities in the rapidly evolving industrial landscape.
Omar Al Suwaidi, Deputy Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology of the UAE, said that the BRICS countries account for approximately 45% of the world's population and account for approximately one third of the world's GDP, which represents a significant opportunity for joint industrial progress and sustainable development.
The statement includes discussions to create several working groups, including chemical industries, metals, SMEs, smart manufacturing, clean technology and medical devices.
According to the statement, members reaffirmed their commitment to industrial policy cooperation in support of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 9 on industry, innovation and infrastructure, including the implementation of green technologies.
The center has hosted events such as BRICS New Industrial Revolution Exhibition, BRICS Forum on PartNIR, BRICS Industrial Innovation Competition and BRICS Forum on Innovation in Future Networks.
The signatories also appreciated the efforts of the BRICS Startup Forum in supporting startup projects that play an important role in promoting innovation and economic growth in the era of the new industrial revolution.
The meeting concluded by reviewing the agreements and decisions taken in previous meetings to deepen BRICS cooperation in the field of industrialization, innovation, inclusiveness and investment, including the Second Johannesburg Declaration on August 23, 2023.
Delegates supported Brazil to host the 9th BRICS Industry Ministerial Meeting to be held in 2025.
In August 2023, six new members were invited to join BRICS, including the United Arab Emirates, which formally joined in January 2024. Predictions show that BRICS can account for 45% of the world economy by 2040.
