Bayanat AI PLC, a leading provider of artificial intelligence-based geospatial solutions, and Al Yah Satellite Communications PJSC, the UAE's leading satellite solutions provider, announced the launch of the first SAR satellite into space.
According to Amac News: Bayanat AI PLC added that LEO (SAR Artificial Aperture Radar) satellite entered orbit on August 16, 2024 in partnership with ICEYE, a pioneer in SAR satellite operations for Earth observation, continuous monitoring and natural disaster solutions.
According to the report, Bayanat's SAR satellite, in collaboration with Yahsat, was launched via the Exolaunch integrator and successfully lifted off from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, USA, from Space X's transporter 11.
The launch of the UAE's first SAR satellite is an important milestone for companies and the region to strengthen Earth observation capabilities. As part of the Earth Observation Space Program, this satellite displays a SAR constellation that provides high resolution and stable monitoring solutions.
The satellite uses SAR technology, an active sensor system that illuminates the Earth's surface and measures the reflected signal to produce high-resolution images.
Unlike traditional optical imaging satellites, SAR can capture images day and night regardless of weather conditions or sunlight.
Compared to other new Space SAR satellite services, the ICEYE radar antenna covers much larger geographic areas and provides higher resolution images of smaller areas, providing greater value to customers.
The Earth observation space program is a testament to Bayanat's unwavering commitment to advancing the UAE's space sector, nurturing local talent, and building independent satellite data extraction and processing capabilities.
The successful launch of this satellite reaffirms the progressive vision of the UAE leadership to achieve the National Space Strategy 2030.
This joint effort will place Bayanat and Yahsat at the forefront of the region's growing space ecosystem, driving innovation and supporting national and commercial interests.
The launch of the satellite is the latest achievement of the ongoing partnership of Bayanat, Yahsat and ICEYE. In 2023, the Earth Observation Space Program was established to build national satellite remote sensing and Earth observation capabilities in the UAE by building a constellation of SAR satellites.
A fleet of LEO satellites provides a constant data stream for end-to-end solutions for SAR applications. It will cover the entire value chain by using the existing synergy in the upstream and middle capabilities of Yahsat and the downstream capabilities of statements.
Orbiting satellites frequently visit the Middle East, enabling Bayanat and Yahsat to provide near-realistic, high-quality images of conditions on the ground across the region and beyond.
This strategic initiative will enhance companies' ability to provide timely and accurate spatial insights, which are critical for applications in disaster management, maritime surveillance and smart mobility.
