The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a news release that Abdullah Balalaa, the ministry's assistant for energy and sustainability affairs, participated in the UN's Critical Energy Transition Minerals (CETM) panel.
According to Amac News: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs' newsletter states that this panel was held in Nairobi, Kenya with the presence of government representatives, experts and organizations.
The UN CETM Panel discussed important issues related to the mining sector and ensured participation in constructive discussions on the development of Global Voluntary Guiding Principles on Critical Minerals.
In this past session, the panelists emphasized the importance of forming stronger foundations and focusing on international cooperation to achieve mutual and collective benefits in the mining industry.
Balalaa praised the UN panel's results, which came with the urgent need to keep temperatures below 1.5 degrees Celsius, and the global readiness to achieve the net zero goal.
He emphasized the importance of strengthening the environmental response based on sustainable policies and practices, which ushers in a new era of climate action and protects local communities against any climate or environmental damage associated with the mining process.
He emphasized the importance of building trust at a broader level in order to achieve desirable transformational outcomes, allowing mineral-rich countries to create an enabling environment that fosters economic growth.
Balalaa noted the importance of attracting responsible investment in the mining sector to support these countries, increase their adaptability and ensure a smooth transition to renewable and clean energy.
As part of the UAE's efforts in climate action through the UN Secretary-General's Vital Energy Transition Minerals Panel, in addition to investing in green energy, and supporting climate action around the world, the UAE announced that it will co-host The United Nations will be in 2026.
