The UAE delegation participated in the general conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency

The UAE delegation has participated in the 68th regular one-week annual session of the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).


According to Amac News: The meeting with the theme of "Global Cooperation in the Nuclear Field" will be held at the organization's headquarters in Vienna, Austria from September 16 to 20, 2024.
Ambassador Hamad Al Kaabi, UAE Permanent Representative to the Agency, leads the UAE delegation, which includes national stakeholders in the nuclear sector such as the Federal Agency for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) and the Emirates Nuclear Energy Cooperation (ENEC).
Al Kaabi will present the UAE's statement to the plenary session of the General Conference, where he will highlight the strong relationship between the UAE and the International Atomic Energy Agency.
This five-decade partnership helped meet the UAE's energy needs in building and implementing a peaceful nuclear program that adheres to the highest standards of nuclear safety, security and non-proliferation.
The UAE delegation will hold several bilateral meetings with international stakeholders to discuss cooperation opportunities and exchange views on issues related to nuclear policy, regulation and the industry.
On the sidelines of the Gulf Cooperation Council, FANR plans to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Hungarian Atomic Energy Agency to cooperate and exchange information on nuclear regulatory issues, as well as provide training opportunities for its personnel.
FANR continuously monitors radioactivity levels in the UAE environment through its environmental laboratory and through its radioactivity monitoring stations at various locations across the UAE.
The UAE delegation will attend the Regulatory Cooperation Forum, where FANR and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission will present a newly launched white paper on the “Nuclear Regulatory – Audit Inspection Process”, which will clarify the role and importance of internal audit functions in nuclear .
Since joining the IAEA in 1976, the UAE has been cooperating with the IAEA based on its national development priorities.
The General Conference is the highest policy-making body of the International Atomic Energy Agency and is composed of representatives of its member states and discusses the program and budget of the Agency and other issues related to nuclear energy.
