UAE becomes first Arab board member of IEC

The United Arab Emirates has announced that it has been elected to serve on the Board of Directors of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) for the years 2027-2025.


According to Amac News: The UAE media announced this news and added that the United Arab Emirates is the first country to be elected as a member of this delegation.
According to the media, this election took place at the General Assembly of the Independent Election Commission, which was held in Edinburgh, United Kingdom, in October.
According to the UAE government, this event reflects the ongoing efforts of the Ministry of Information to enhance the quality infrastructure of the UAE through various initiatives to further develop standards, regulations and compliance schemes.
The UAE is a key member of the IEC, which brings together 170 countries and provides a standardization platform for more than 30,000 experts worldwide. This membership enables the UAE to share best practices in the field of standardization to ensure the competitiveness of domestic products.
Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology of the UAE, said that becoming the first Arab country to become a member of the Independent Election Commission is an important achievement for the UAE.
He added that since the UAE is committed to supporting capacity building and increasing efficiency in all sectors, this membership is in line with the vision of the country's leadership.
This news is announced while the UAE has also obtained the membership of the Board of Directors of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in September 2023.
The Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology of the UAE said that this achievement shows the appreciation of the international community for the efforts of the United Arab Emirates to create a quality infrastructure system as one of the key pillars of its industrial growth in line with the national strategy of industry and advanced technology.
Farah Al-Zarouni, Assistant Deputy Minister in the Department of Standards and Regulations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the UAE, will lead the country's delegation in this commission.
 IEC is one of the leading international organizations in the development of electrical standards, electronics and related technologies, and its goal is to facilitate global trade by developing international standards.
