Afghanistan extends power purchase agreement with Tajikistan

news agency َAfghan News , 25 Nov 2024 - 16:39

The Afghanistan Power Supply Company (Breshna) has announced in a newsletter that the power purchase agreement with Tajikistan has been extended for the year 2025.

According to Amac News: The newsletter published today (Monday, November 25) states that the agreement was signed in Turkey between Abdul Bari Omar, the CEO of Breshna, and Mohammad Omar Asazada, the head of the Tajikistan Electricity Supply Company.
The newsletter does not mention the cost or the amount of electricity agreed upon between the two parties.
Officials of the caretaker government of Afghanistan claim that since taking power, they have paid off a significant portion of the electricity debts from the previous government.
The extension of the electricity agreement with Tajikistan comes at a time when Afghan citizens, especially those in the capital, have consistently complained about electricity shortages.
Afghanistan's electricity is supplied by neighboring countries, including Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Iran.
