ADIO and Partanna collaborate to decarbonise concrete industry in Abu Dhabi

The Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO) has announced that it has partnered with Partanna, a Bahamian climate technology company, to set up a regional hub and a manufacturing facility in Abu Dhabi.

According to Amac News: Based on the announcement, this partnership, which was announced during the Abu Dhabi Business Week (ADBW), will establish Abu Dhabi as a regional center for carbon negative building materials.
The deal will also help Partanna decarbonize the $400 billion global cement industry and enter the regional market by setting up a major manufacturing operation in Abu Dhabi.
Cement production accounts for approximately 9% of global carbon dioxide emissions, and traditional production methods are one of the biggest sources of climate change.
Under the agreement, Partanna's new facility in Abu Dhabi will convert saltwater into carbon-negative cement that not only offsets carbon emissions but also actively removes CO₂ from the atmosphere, turning concrete into a carbon sink.
The new Abu Dhabi facility will be able to produce up to 3 million tons of Partanna glue annually - equivalent to 10% of the UAE's cement market. By achieving this output, Partanna will have a positive carbon impact similar to the Borneo rainforest, offsetting about 7.98 million tons of CO₂ annually.
The facility is said to be designed to be replicable as a franchise model around the world, allowing for rapid adoption in other high-growth regions.
Partanna participates in Abu Dhabi's global tech ecosystem as a former three-time NBA champion and frontline climate change innovator.
"Partanna is bringing a new era of cement to the world and there is no better place than Abu Dhabi to expand our business globally," said Rick Fox, co-founder and CEO of the company.
Since launching the company two years ago, they have attracted clients in the UAE, the Bahamas, the US and Europe.
