According to a new report by the International Labor Organization (ILO), international migrants continue to play a significant role in the global labor market, accounting for 4.7 percent of the labor force in 2022

Amac News: The ILO report shows that in 2022, 167.7 million migrants were part of the labor force of destination countries. Of these, 102.7 million were men and 64.9 million were women.
This figure represents an increase of more than 30 million since 2013, mainly observed in the period 2013-2019.
Most migrants are concentrated as labor force in high-income countries, which account for 68.4 percent of all migrants (114.7 million). High- and middle-income countries account for 17.4 percent (29.2 million people), respectively.
The report also shows that most migrants are concentrated in Europe (Northern, Southern and Western), North America and the Arab world.
The share of migrants in the labour force in Northern, Southern and Western Europe increased from 22.5 percent in 2013 to 23.3 percent in 2022. In contrast, the share of migrants in the labour force in North America and the Arab world decreased slightly.
ILO Director-General Gilbert F. Huangbo said that migrant workers are essential to responding to global labour shortages and contributing to economic growth. He added that ensuring their rights and access to decent work is not only a moral imperative, but also an economic necessity.
