According to Amac News: Based on the ADNOC’s announcement, the company sees the achievement as a testament to its commitment to producing some of the world’s lowest-carbon oil and gas.
The Shah oilfield, located 230 kilometers south of Abu Dhabi, has a production capacity of approximately 70,000 barrels of crude oil per day, enough to fuel more than one million cars in the UAE.
The field has achieved this through optimized field development, the use of digitalization, artificial intelligence and advanced technologies to maximize efficiency and reduce emissions.
The field also benefits from ADNOC’s electrification of its onshore assets, powered by nuclear and solar energy sources.
Mushab Al Kaabi, CEO of ADNOC’s division, said technology was essential to moving towards carbon neutrality.
He said ADNOC had significantly reduced emissions by using advanced solutions including artificial intelligence, digitalization, remote operations and predictive data analytics.
Technologies used in the field include Liquid Exploration Technology, an advanced system for recovering and reusing gas that would otherwise be wasted.
Also, ADNOC’s AI-based Central Program Predictive Analytics (CPAD), which reduces maintenance and downtime while increasing operational efficiency and safety.
ADNOC achieved a lower carbon intensity of ~7kgCO2e/boe in the upstream sector in 2023, placing the company in the top tier of the world's lowest carbon-intensive oil and gas producers.
