news agency َAfghan News , 3 Feb 2025 - 8:45

Officials in the Ministry of Industry and Commerce of the acting government of Afghanistan have announced that in the first ten months of the current solar year (from March to December 2024), the value of trade between Afghanistan and India has reached $763 million.

According to Amac News: Akhundzada Abdul Salam Jawad, spokesman for the ministry, announced that of this amount, $541 million is Afghanistan exports and $222 million is imports from India.
According to him, Afghanistan's major export items to India include dried figs, ginger, saffron, raisins, cumin, and almonds, which have been able to find a suitable place in Indian markets in recent years.
This export trend indicates the importance of India as one of the main destinations for Afghan agricultural and plant products, which has always played an important role in trade between the two countries.
India is Afghanistan's third largest trading partner after Pakistan and Iran, and trade between the two countries is mainly conducted through crossings such as Karachi, Chabahar, Wagah, and Bandar Abbas.
The various trade routes between the two countries, especially the use of Iran's Chabahar port, have provided an opportunity for Afghan traders to reduce their dependence on traditional routes and have easier access to Indian markets.
Meanwhile, the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment considers Indian markets an important and suitable market for selling the country's products and emphasizes the need to create more facilities for Afghan traders.
One of the major challenges in this sector is the problems related to business visas, which Afghan traders have repeatedly demanded to be resolved.
They hope that by creating more facilities, the export process to India will increase and trade relations between the two countries will expand further.
Given the importance of these trade relations, economic analysts believe that the continuation and development of trade with India can play an effective role in improving the economic situation of Afghanistan, especially in a situation where the country is facing financial constraints and a decrease in international aid.
Increasing the volume of exports to India, in addition to providing foreign exchange, can also help grow Afghanistan's domestic industries and provide more opportunities for Afghan manufacturers and businessmen.
