According to Amac News, The foundation, alongisde with its research partner, the Mohammed bin Zayed University for Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), seeks to promote standards and best practices for responsible AI in the Middle East and the Global South.
G42 affiliate Inception will serve as the foundation’s program manager to help advance its mission. Microsoft also announced that it is expanding its AI for Good Lab to Abu Dhabi.
The Responsible AI Foundation will launch with two focus areas: research in responsible AI and implementation and governance of responsible AI.
Research in responsible AI involves advancing the technical and ethical aspects of AI through cutting-edge research. This includes developing AI safety methodologies, bias reduction techniques, and explainability tools, as well as collaborating with global and regional research institutions to set new standards for fairness, transparency, and accountability in AI.
Responsible AI implementation and governance involves developing frameworks to ensure the ethical development and implementation of AI systems, taking into account cultural diversity. This includes designing risk assessment models, external ethics boards, technical audit tools, and customizable governance guides that take into account regional needs and ensure that AI adoption is both responsible and inclusive.
The AI ​​for Good Lab in Abu Dhabi, which is one of the regional hubs of Microsoft’s AI for Good Lab, will work with non-governmental and government organizations to use AI to solve societal challenges, with a focus on projects in the Middle East and the Global South.
The first researchers at the Abu Dhabi center will begin work in March this year. With the establishment of the Responsible AI Foundation and a Microsoft AI for Good Lab, G42 and the UAE are establishing themselves as a global hub for responsible AI development.
