The Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center (MBRSC) announced the start of the second phase of the second analog study under the UAE Analog Program
According to Amac News: MBRSC announced that after the arrival of the Emirati crew member Shareef AlRomaithi to the Human Research Analog Habitat (HERA) at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, the new phase of analog study began.
AlRomaithi joined the habitat with his original crew of Jason Lee, Stephanie Navarro, and Piyumi Wijesekara as they embarked on a 45-day mission at the HERA facility.
During their simulated journey on HERA, the team will participate in scientific research and operational tasks.
The mission on Earth includes a virtual reality "walk" on the surface of Mars and managing increasing communication delays with Mission Control Center.
"Through these detailed ground-based simulations in collaboration with our partners at NASA, we are carefully preparing our personnel for the vast challenges of deep space exploration," said MBRSC Director General Salem Humid AlMarri.
The second analogue study under the UAE analogue program is part of a comprehensive four-phase analogue study consisting of 18 human health studies on Earth.
These studies aim to understand the physiological, behavioral and psychological reactions of crew members under conditions similar to those expected in future lunar and Mars exploration missions.
The UAE plays a pivotal role in all four analog study phases of these pioneering research initiatives, with scientific trials conducted by the UAE University, Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU) and the American University of Sharjah (AUS).
