The European Union issues a new law for artificial intelligence

news agency wam , 23 May 2024 - 11:39

German news agency DPA reported that European Union ministers are set to approve stricter rules on artificial intelligence (AI) in Brussels.

According to Amac News: EU ministers approve this law in order to make the use of artificial intelligence safer in the European Union (EU).
Negotiators from the European Parliament and EU countries reached an agreement on artificial intelligence regulations in December.
These regulations aim to ensure that artificial intelligence systems are as transparent, understandable, non-discriminatory and environmentally friendly as possible.
An important aspect is that AI systems are supervised by humans and not just by other technological systems.
Artificial intelligence systems will be classified into different risk groups in the future. The higher the potential risks of a program, the higher the requirements.
Some AI applications that violate EU values are banned outright. This includes an assessment of social behavior known as "social scoring".
Emotion recognition in workplaces and educational institutions will also be banned in the EU. The hope is that the rules will be replicated in other legal systems around the world.
