At the opening of Baku Energy Week, Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and President of COP28, called for increased artificial intelligence (AI), energy transition and sustainability with a positive climate for all.
According to Amac News: Dr. Al Jaber also called on the energy and technology sectors to cooperate more closely to accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence to sustainably respond to the growing energy demand in the world and reduce decarburization.
He added that the growth of artificial intelligence is one of the three big trends that will shape our future.
Dr. Al Jaber said the COP28 presidency and the UAE "will work very closely with the Azerbaijan COP presidency and we urge all countries to ensure that COP29 is a resounding success, building on the results of Dubai."
"We have united the world around an actionable path to keep 1.5 degrees Celsius within reach, while building resilience and sustaining socio-economic development for all," said Dr Al Jaber.
In line with the UAE's consensus commitment to triple renewable energy capacity by 2030, the UAE and Azerbaijan today celebrate the inauguration of the Bilasuvar and Neftchala solar PV plants and the Absheron Garadagh wind project.
Together, they will provide more than 1 GW of clean electricity for Azerbaijan's growing energy needs. The projects, which were announced last year, are being developed by Masdar, the UAE's clean energy powerhouse, and Sokar, Azerbaijan's state-owned oil company.
He said the Troika of COP Presidency, established in the United Arab Emirates Consensus and uniting COP28 with the COP Presidency of Azerbaijan and Brazil, will help advance ambitious collective climate action.
Dr Al Jaber said industry must also continue to play its role and commended SOCAR for joining the Oil and Gas Decarbonisation Charter launched at COP28.
Dr Al Jaber added: "We now have more than 40% of the industry committed to zero methane emissions by 2030 and net zero by 2050 or earlier.
The COP28 president noted that the expansion of data centers to fuel the growth of artificial intelligence requires the support of renewable energy by natural gas. COP29, to be held in Baku in November, will focus "like no other COP" on climate finance, a key factor in the UAE consensus.
Welcoming the news that the pledge of $100 billion in climate finance has finally been realised, Dr Al Jaber said: "I am encouraged...but we need much more funding than is available, in Be more accessible and affordable."
In his recent speech, he added: The investment fund will mobilize 200 billion dollars in additional investments over the next 6 years in emerging markets and the global south, and I believe it provides a model that should be used to unlock finance at scale. followed it.
