UAE emphasized cooperation with BRICS countries

Sohail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure of the UAE, participated in the meeting of BRICS Ministers of Transport held in St. Petersburg, Russia.


According to Amac News: The Minister of Energy and Infrastructure of the United Arab Emirates said that he participated in this program in order to share experiences in the transportation sector.
In his speech at this meeting, Al Mazrouei expressed the UAE's readiness to cooperate with the BRICS countries in improving connectivity, diversifying the logistics supply chain and developing simple international transportation routes that will benefit them.
Speaking about the maritime sector, the Minister of Maritime Transport said: “The maritime sector acts as a key economic driver for the UAE and contributes significantly to the GDP, which is over $34 billion.
He added that this sector supports more than 27,000 national and international companies and a fleet of 863 national ships. As one of the five major maritime centers around the world, the United Arab Emirates is a leading player in the global shipping industry and ranks third in the world as a fuel supplier for ships, eighth in the world in container handling efficiency, and ninth in the world in Port service index has a global efficiency.
Regarding land transport, Al Mazrouei said: "Land transport contributes significantly, close to $4 billion, to the UAE's GDP. The UAE has made a significant commitment to its road infrastructure by investing more than $6 billion. According to a report published by the World Economic Forum, the United Arab Emirates ranked fifth in the world and first among Arab countries in road quality.
He also emphasized the importance of the Etihad Railway in supporting ground transportation and people's movement. He pointed out that this railway line stretches for 1200 kilometers across the UAE and connects the main business centers.
Al Mazrouei added: "Our electric vehicle market is steadily growing as we plan to increase the share of electric and hybrid vehicles to 50 percent of all vehicles on our roads by 2050. The adoption of electric vehicles in the UAE is By 2023, the total share of electric vehicles is estimated to be 3% of all vehicles with more than 800 chargers available across the UAE.
