Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Organization (DIEZ) has announced that this organization, in cooperation with Aramex, has launched an automated delivery robot in Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO), a special economic zone for knowledge and innovation and a member of DIEZ.
According to Amac News: DIEZ said that this initiative is a step towards the integration of sustainable autonomous delivery vehicles in the urban fabric of Dubai, in line with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.
The pilot phase testing, which is scheduled to continue for three months, is expected to reach full operational status by September. Initially, the Cedre Villas community in Dubai will cover the Silicon Oasis.
This step introduces an advanced multi-cabin delivery robot, a significant upgrade over previous single-cabin robot deployments.
Capable of multiple deliveries per trip, it increases operational efficiency and is expected to reduce carbon emissions by more than 500 kg over its three-month run. Additionally, the robot is expected to autonomously deliver more than 1,000 packages to customers in the Cedre Villas community.
Anticipating future developments, DIEZ plans to expand this initiative to include its other economic zones, including the Dubai Airport Free Zone and Dubai Commer City.
The delivery robot is equipped with advanced technologies such as a depth camera, multiple human-robot interface elements, and extensive 360-degree video coverage that ensures optimal performance in indoor and outdoor environments.
Its design, which includes a replaceable battery pack and eight compartments for different pack sizes, reflects a commitment to meeting the logistical needs of today's urban life.
