The United Arab Emirates presented a joint statement on behalf of more than 69 countries at the 56th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, focusing on the adverse effects of climate change on human rights.

According to Amac News: Khalifa Almazrouei, the adviser of the UAE delegation in Geneva, emphasized on behalf of these countries that the effects of climate change are undeniable and increasingly pervasive.
Almazrouei emphasized the importance of adopting an approach based on governments' obligations under international human rights law to address the disproportionate effects of climate change on the most vulnerable, adding that these changes significantly affect all economic sectors.
He asked the member states to ensure the protection of human rights in the formulation and implementation of climate policies and programs.
The statement commended the historic decision taken during COP27 to establish the Indemnity Fund as a new dedicated financial mechanism.
In addition, it celebrated the success of the UAE's presidency of COP28, which secured commitments of over $600 million.
The statement also emphasized the importance of strengthening the existing climate change regime, particularly in the areas of adaptation, resilience, and vulnerability in favor of developing countries.
