The Ministry of Economy of the United Arab Emirates has announced that in the first nine months of 2024, the registration of intellectual property (IP) in this country has significantly grown.
UAE records significant growth in IP registrations
According to Amac News: Based on the Ministry's announcement, the registration of trademarks, patents and functional certificates increased by 34.3% during this period, which shows the progress in research and development (R&D) and the government's support for entrepreneurship in the economic and scientific sectors.
According to the UAE Ministry of Economy, the registration of trademarks has increased by 39.12% and the registration of patents, utility certificates and industrial designs by 8% compared to the same period in 2023.
The ministry said it registered 1,884 IP works, which increased from 1,402 last year, bringing the total to 20,389.
By September 2024, the UAE had attracted 18,175 new trademarks, a 39% increase over last year. The Ministry has received 24,258 trademark registration applications and 8,171 trademark inquiries, bringing the total number of trademarks active in the UAE markets to 356,408.
The data also shows an 8 percent increase in the number of patents, utility bills and industrial designs filed by the end of September 2024, reaching a total of 15,051.
Registration requests also increased by 3.8 percent to 3,489 requests compared to the same period in 2023.
