Iranian media have reported that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps has announced the death of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the political office of the Palestinian organization Hamas in Tehran.
According to Amac News: The IRGC said in a statement that Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards were killed this morning at his residence in the capital of Iran, Tehran.
In a part of this announcement, which was published by the media inside Iran, it is stated: "Mr. Dr. Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the political office of Hamas, and one of his bodyguards were martyred when their residence in Tehran was hit."
The announcement added: "The cause and dimensions of this incident are being investigated and the results will be announced later."
The Hamas movement has also confirmed this attack. In part of the statement of this movement, it is stated: "The brother of Ismail Haniyeh was martyred in the criminal attack of the Zionist enemy on his place of residence in Tehran."
In its statement, Hamas said that the head of the group's office was killed by an "Israeli airstrike".
Musa Abu Marzouq, a senior member of Hamas and Ismail Haniyeh's brother, called this attack "cowardly" and said "it will not go unanswered."
Mr. Haniyeh had traveled to Tehran on Monday of this week to participate in the inauguration ceremony of Masoud pezishkian, the new president of Iran.
It should be noted that the Hamas movement, led by Ismail Haniyeh, had agreed on the formation of a joint Palestinian government with other Palestinian political groups in a historic event last week.
