Abdulhamid Elwaer, Deputy Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and Regional Representative for the Middle East and North Africa, highlighted the UAE’s role in environmental sustainability and economic resilience.
According to Amac News: Elwaer said in an interview with the UAE’s state-run WAM news agency that the UAE is a leader in environmental sustainability and is demonstrating commitments, goals and innovative projects that take a proactive approach to the challenges of climate change.
Speaking on the sidelines of World Food Week and the Global Food Security Summit in Abu Dhabi, he stressed that the UAE is actively contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and addressing challenges in sectors such as industrialization and agriculture.
He noted that cooperation between the UAE and the FAO is a key part of the collective efforts to achieve sustainable food security, and works closely with various ministries, including the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment.
According to Elwaer, the partnerships include initiatives such as the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives and various organizations in the UAE, including Dubai Municipality, the Abu Dhabi Department of Agriculture and Food Safety, the Emirates Space Agency and the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi.
He added that through these partnerships, FAO continues to work with the UAE to support agricultural innovation, promote sustainable practices and adapt to climate change at the local, regional and global levels.
