Officials in the Ministry of Industry and Commerce of the acting government of Afghanistan say that it earned about $20 million from medicinal plant exports last year.

According to Amac News: Abdul Salam Jawad Akhundzada, spokesman for the ministry, said in a statement to the media yesterday, Saturday, February 8, that during this period, 15,200 tons of medicinal plants have been exported to different countries.
The spokesman for the Ministry of Industry of Afghanistan, while emphasizing the importance of these exports, stated that the country has a high capacity to increase the production and export of medicinal plants.
These plants include ginger, licorice, cumin and black cumin, which have been mainly exported to India, the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Turkey, Kyrgyzstan, Iran, China, the United States, Canada, Japan, Ukraine, Russia and several other countries.
The spokesman for the Ministry of Industry and Commerce of Afghanistan said that these plants are used in the pharmaceutical industries of these countries.
Meanwhile, the Afghanistan Chamber of Agriculture and Livestock has called for more support for farmers to expand exports of these products. Wasim Safi, the head of the chamber, has suggested that by investing in the processing of medicinal plants within the country, it is possible to create job opportunities, add more value to these products and gain more profits from international markets.
