The Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) has announced that the company has issued an RFP (RFP) for the development of the Madinat Zayed Independent Power Producer (IPP) project.
According to Amac News: EWEC said that this project includes a new OCGT (open cycle gas turbine) power plant located in Madinat Zayed area, 120 km southwest of Abu Dhabi city.
EWEC further added that it is expected to start its commercial operations in the third quarter of 2027 and provide backup generation of up to 1.5 GW AC to Madinat Zayed.
The RFP shared with bidders provides comprehensive requirements and proposed technical parameters of the project to help companies and consortia develop their proposals.
The Madinat Zayed project will closely follow the model of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi's successful Independent Power Producer (IPP) program, where developers enter into a long-term agreement with EWEC as the sole supplier.
The project will include development, financing, construction, operation, maintenance and ownership of the plant. The remaining shares are held indirectly by the government of Abu Dhabi.
