The Dubai International Financial Center (DIFC) has been recognized as an Associate Member by the Global Forum Assembly (GFA) by publishing a statement.
DIFC is recognized by the GFA
According to Amac News: In the announcement of the Dubai International Financial Center (DIFC), it is stated that the CBPR World Forum has welcomed DIFC, Mauritius and Bermuda as partners.
The announcement came after the GFA approved the membership committee's recommendation that all three met the requirements for recognition as a partner.
This recognition is the result of DIFC's active and substantial contribution to the development of the Forum since its establishment in April 2022, most recently attending workshops hosted by the Personal Information Protection Commission (PPC) in Tokyo, Japan.
DIFC's status in the Forum as a long-standing supporter of reliable and alternative data transfer mechanisms provides an opportunity to work with other regulatory authorities on the future of secure international data flows.
CBPRs are a flexible yet robust privacy certification scheme that the Commissioner will adopt in accordance with Article 50(5) of the Data Protection Act, DIFC Regulation No. 5 of 2020 to implement the DIFC Data Protection Compliance Regime .
The GFA Membership Committee consists of the main member countries of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), including Japan, the Philippines and Singapore. The GFA is chaired by the United States, represented by Shannon Coe, Director of Global Data Policy in the Office of Global Data and Privacy Policy in the US Department of Commerce's Office of International Trade.
The Membership Committee is chaired by Japan, represented by Makiko Tsuda, Director of International Digital Policy Coordination for the Japan Trade and Information Policy Office, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
