The financial information company "SNDP Global" has announced the agreement between the caretaker government of Afghanistan and Uzbekistan for the refining of crude oil in northern Afghanistan.
Uzbekistan refines Afghanistan
According to Amac News: The energy information department of the American company SNP Global, citing sources close to the oil industry of Uzbekistan, said that the country's “Saneg” oil refinery has signed a contract to process Afghan crude oil.
According to SNP Global, according to this contract, Sang Refinery is going to refine the first cargo of Afghanistan's crude oil with a capacity of 2 million tons per year (40 thousand barrels per day) in the Farghana Refinery of Uzbekistan.
According to the source, "Afghan crude oil will be transported from Hairataan port to Uzbekistan through the Amu River using rail wagons belonging to Song Company."
The source added that the shipment of crude oil has already started.
Afghanistan has been producing small amounts of oil in the Amu Darya basin in the north of the country for a long time, but it has not been able to refine crude oil.
It should be noted that the Fergana refinery is the only refinery in Uzbekistan that has the technical ability to refine crude oil, and this facility - which was built in the Soviet era - was specifically designed for different types of crude oil.
