The United Arab Emirates and Greece are expanding their cooperation in the digital infrastructure sector with a focus on data center projects.
UAE, Greece sign digital infrastructure deal
According to Amaq, citing ARN News, the two sides have signed a memorandum of understanding with the aim of developing data centers in Greece with a capacity of 500 megawatts.
Based on this agreement, the relations between the public and private organizations of the two countries will be strengthened and will help to exchange and encourage expertise. Incentive plans are also proposed in this agreement.
The memorandum was signed by Mohamed Hassan Al Suwaidi, Minister of Investments of the UAE and Dimitris Papastergiou, Minister of Digital Governance of Greece.
The data center market in Greece has seen significant growth in recent years, largely driven by the country's 2025-2020 digital transformation strategy.
Forecasts show that the Greek data center market will reach $1.218 billion (AED 4.47 billion) by 2028, from $735 million (AED 2.69 billion) in 2022.
In 2022, the two countries announced a €4 billion (Dh15.98 billion) fund to invest in the Greek economy.
There was also a significant increase in bilateral non-oil trade worth nearly $572 million in 2021, representing a 67% year-on-year growth.
