The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said in a statement that it has signed a contract for the development of the Business Center Roundabout, one of Dubai's key intersections, connecting Sheikh Zayed Road to five major streets.
RTA signed a contract worth 696 million dirhams
According to Amac News: RTA's announcement states that it has signed an agreement for the development of the Roundabout commercial center and the cost of this project will be 696.414 million dirhams.
The scope of the project includes the construction of five 5,000-meter long bridges and the conversion of the existing roundabout into a surface intersection to improve the flow of incoming traffic from Sheikh Zayed Road to Second December Street and southbound traffic from Al-Mustaqbal Street to Sheikh Zayed Road.
It will also facilitate free traffic from 2nd December Street (Jumeirah and Al Satwa) to Majles Street, leading to Al Mustaqbal Street (serving DWTC and DIFC) and from Sheikh Rashid Street to Deira. In addition, this project will ensure smooth traffic flow on the upper level bridge from Sheikh Zayed Road to Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Street.
RTA Director General and Chairman of the Executive Board Mattar Al Tayer said that the commercial center roundabout development project is part of a wider development plan that also includes the development of Al Mustaqbal Street.
He added that this project would double the capacity of the intersection, reduce the delay time from 12 minutes to 90 seconds, and reduce the travel time from Sheikh Zayed Road to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street from 6 minutes to only one minute.
He continued that the project would include various key locations including DWTC, the region's largest venue for international events and exhibitions for over 40 years, hosting important events such as GITEX, Arabian Travel Market, Arab Health and Gulfood Exhibits, among others.
The project also serves DIFC, a leading financial center in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia, as well as communities such as Zabeel, Al Satwa, Karama, Jafiliya and Mankhool, benefiting more than half a million residents and visitors.
This project includes the construction of five bridges that provide free traffic in different directions. A 1,000-meter-long two-lane bridge on the upper level will be built from Sheikh Zayed Road to Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Street towards Deira with a capacity of 3,000 vehicles per hour.
Two two-lane bridges, 2,000 meters long, with a capacity of 6,000 vehicles per hour, connect Sheikh Rashid Street to 2nd December Street. In addition, two two-lane bridges, 2000 meters long, from Al Majles Street to Second December Street, with a capacity of 6,000 vehicles per hour, will connect Al-Mustaqbal Street to Second December Street.
RTA recently awarded the contract for the development of Oud Meta and Al Asayel Streets, which includes the upgrading of four major intersections and the construction of wide bridges. 4,300 meters along with 14 kilometers of roads, the project will serve new residential and development areas with a projected population of over 420,000 by 2030.
It is expected to reduce journey times from 20 minutes to five minutes and improve traffic flow by 75%. In addition, this project coincides with the opening of all phases of the Al Khail Road development project, which includes the construction of 3,300-meter bridges and the extension of 6,820-meter lines at seven different locations along Al Khail Road.
