The potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in transforming the energy industry and accelerating decarbonisation has become a hot topic among energy ministers and business leaders at ADIPEC, the world's largest energy event currently underway in Abu Dhabi.
AI Potential in the Energy Sector: A Key Topic at ADIPEC
According to Amac News: On the opening day of ADIPEC, Sultan bin Ahmed Al-Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technologies and CEO of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), emphasized that there is an urgent need for the cooperation of industrial leaders to support breakthroughs, such as artificial intelligence.
Likewise, government leaders and business managers present at ADIPEC 2024 emphasized that artificial intelligence can accelerate energy transition and provide new ways for progress and prosperity.
In a breakout session titled "The Power of AI to Transform Energy," senior executives from the private sector explored how AI is transforming business operations.
Speaking about his company's experience with artificial intelligence, Michelle Lutz, chief data officer and head of TotalEnergies' digital data and artificial intelligence factory, said that TotalEnergies uses artificial intelligence to improve operational efficiency and support the company's development in renewables.
Speakers at ten different ADIPEC conferences emphasized the need to address the challenges and opportunities associated with this transformative technology.
At the conference, Anima Anandkumar, a professor in the School of Computer Science and Mathematics at Caltech, highlighted the evolving impact of artificial intelligence on the energy industry and the environment.
"We need to look at the time and money that can be saved by applying these AI models," he said.
The space also hosted the "Artificial Intelligence Conference," where leaders from the energy, technology and government sectors collaborate to develop a strategic roadmap for integrating artificial intelligence into the energy landscape.
