The Emirates Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) unveiled the first digital platform in the region for the implementation of the carbon offset and reduction plan in international aviation (CORSIA).
GCAA launches region
According to Amac News: This plan, which was approved by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in 2016, was implemented in 2019.
This digital platform is said to play an important role in facilitating the calculation of offset and reduction values for carbon credits used by national airlines.
Previously, national airlines used to send data manually to GCAA representatives, which was time-consuming and difficult. But with the launch of this platform, the data collection process is automated and helps maintain privacy and ease of use for Emirates Airlines. It also significantly reduces review time and minimizes human error.
CORSIA provides a structured framework for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in international aviation and takes into account the unique conditions and capacities of each country.
The plan requires airlines and operators to offset any unavoidable carbon dioxide emissions that cannot be reduced through technological advances, operational improvements or the use of sustainable fuels, using carbon market units.
The Director General of the GCAA said that the UAE is "fully committed" to complying with all global requirements to reduce the negative impact of greenhouse gas emissions in international aviation.
In addition, the platform serves as an important archival system, providing a complete digital record of international greenhouse gas emissions data. This will help in the development of future programs in the field of compensation and reduction of carbon emissions in the aviation industry.
