According to Amac News: This session titled "Staying Connected: How NASA and the IMF are communicating with the new generation through social networks", examined how these traditional institutions use digital platforms to expand access and create meaningful interaction.
The third edition of the 1 Million Followers Summit brings together over 15,000 content creators, 420 speakers and 125 CEOs and global experts.
The event will be held from January 11 to 13 in Dubai at iconic locations such as the Emirates Towers, DIFC and Future Museum.
Britta Brown, director of digital communications for NASA, and Pierre Majlak, head of media relations and social communications for the IMF, shared their thoughts on creating engaging content to communicate with diverse audiences.
Brown emphasized NASA's use of compelling imagery, such as photos of robots on Mars taking selfies and sounds of spacewalks, to inspire and engage audiences.
He said NASA's strategy is to diversify content across platforms to target a younger demographic, pointing to the success of its Instagram account, which is among the top 40 most popular accounts in the world.
Meanwhile, Mojlak emphasized the importance of maintaining a consistent tone and staying ahead of trends on IMF's social platforms. He provided relatable content to a wider audience and showed how the economy affects everyday life.
Both NASA and the IMF emphasized the central role of collaboration with content creators and influencers in amplifying their messages.
Brown pointed to NASA's long-standing tradition of inviting content creators behind-the-scenes, saying the move would give them access to create and share real stories about the agency's work.
Maghlak pointed to the IMF's strategic engagement with influencers to amplify content, generate discussions on important economic issues and reach a wider audience, saying these collaborations are critical in creating relatable and impactful stories.
This session also discussed the role of artificial intelligence in shaping the future of content creation. Brown explained NASA's cautious and deliberate approach to AI adoption and emphasized the importance of maintaining the agency's reputation in an era of deepening fakes.
