On the eve of World Customs Day, which is celebrated annually on January 26, Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, Director General of the National Organization for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security, said that UAE Customs has been able to create modern and advanced customs systems and has made many achievements in the fields of digital transformation, customs operations and seizures.
UAE Customs completes 40 million transactions in 2024
According to Amac News: He said that UAE Customs has been successful in fulfilling its commitments to operational efficiency, maintaining security and contributing to economic prosperity and growth.
This has been achieved by improving customs processes and increasing their efficiency through complete digital transformation, updating and simplifying procedures, developing customs services, strengthening data-driven operations and analytical tools, using the latest inspection devices and collaborating with strategic partners at home and abroad.
In addition, according to Al-Khalili, efforts are underway to strengthen supply chain security, combat smuggling and money laundering, promote innovation and entrepreneurship, and attract investment.
Ahmed Abdullah bin Lahej Al-Falasi, Acting Director-General of Customs and Port Security, also said that the number of customs transactions carried out by UAE Customs in 2024 increased, registering unprecedented rates compared to 2023.
He pointed to a 49% growth in customs transactions in 2024 compared to the previous year, saying that the total number of customs transactions by UAE Customs reached approximately 40 million in 2024, compared to 26.8 million transactions last year.
He explained that the rate of compliance of customs departments with the procedures set out in the Customs Procedures Guide reached 100% in 2024. Also, the average customs clearance time in 2024 was only 5 minutes nationwide, which indicates the success of UAE Customs in using technology in the customs clearance process and innovation in customs systems. Al Falasi added: "The total number of customs seizures last year reached about 15,866 seizures. During the year, UAE Customs carried out about 276 inspection missions at the country's customs ports. The number of support devices used in inspection operations was 204, which are among the most advanced in the field of customs inspection."
