Amac News: Based on the UAE media, the meeting reviewed the development of data centers in the UAE and their impact on the local energy sector.
The challenges facing data centers, ways to make them more sustainable, and the importance of adopting global best practices to ensure the efficient operation of these centers were also discussed.
The meeting was attended by Sharif Al-Olama, Deputy Minister of Energy and Petrochemical Affairs at the MoEI; Saif Ghobash, Deputy Minister of Oil, Gas and Mineral Resources at the MoEI; and team members from various ministries, including the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and Digital Government, the Office of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Economy, and other digital entities in the UAE.
The team is tasked with analyzing and assessing the impact of data centers on energy demand, assessing the local market and the expected economic return for the sector, identifying all existing data centers in the country and classifying them based on specific standards.
The team is also tasked with conducting a geographical study of the distribution of current and future data centers to ensure the optimal distribution of infrastructure.
During the meeting, Al-Olama stressed the importance of cooperation between member institutions to achieve the team’s goals, including adopting innovative solutions to reduce energy consumption and increase the operational efficiency of data centers.
He added that the formation of the national team is part of the country’s strategic orientation towards digital transformation and increasing sustainability in the energy sector.
The team is expected to help develop policies and regulations that support the sustainability of the sector and maintain the UAE’s competitiveness in the field of digital infrastructure.
He also stressed the need to develop innovative solutions to ensure a balance between the demands of technological development and the sustainability of energy resources in line with national goals.
Finally, he emphasized the importance of creating a comprehensive framework that includes analytical studies and clear recommendations based on accurate data, which will help make strategic decisions capable of achieving the country's energy goals, especially in the field of clean and renewable energy.
