Amac News: Based on an announcement by SAIF Zone, the company has started production at its new factory, which is spread over an area of 4,300 square feet and has invested over AED 8 million.
The initial production capacity of the factory will reach over 2,000 ophthalmic lenses per day, positioning Tokai Optical to meet the growing demand in the Middle East and Africa.
According to a report by Mordor Intelligence, the contact lens market in these regions is expected to grow from $10.23 billion in 2024 to $12.24 billion by 2029.
The move is part of Tokai ’s plan to increase investments in the UAE and expand its presence in the region.
Saud Salim Al Mazrouei, Director of SAIF Zone, Kurt Loeridan, CEO of Tokai Optical, and his Japanese partner Hirokazu Furuzawa, officially visited the facility.
The visit was also attended by a number of officials, including Ken Okinawa, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the UAE, and Antoine Delcourt, Ambassador of Belgium to the UAE.
“The opening of Tokai Optical’s new factory is a testament to the position of SAIF Zone as a premier hub for global companies and industries. Investments such as these help enrich the emirate’s economy and foster industrial diversification and innovation,” Al Mazrouei said.
He stressed that the launch of Tokai Optical, one of the world’s top five manufacturers of medical lenses, from Sharjah Airport Free Zone will contribute significantly to the growth and development of the industrial and medical sectors in the UAE, especially in Sharjah.
Al Mazrouei noted that the free zone offers a dynamic business environment and first-class infrastructure that will help companies in various industrial sectors expand their operations and improve their performance.
He added: "We are committed to advancing the goals of the '300 Billion Operation', the UAE's industrial strategy, as well as the 'Make in the UAE' campaign, which seeks to provide an attractive and competitive business landscape for local and international investors in the industrial sector."
Kurt Loeridan also emphasized that the company is among the top three global companies in terms of research and development. He noted that the start of production operations in the SAIF Zone is an important step in the company's expansion strategy.
