The 11th round of Abu Dhabi Awards for Social Partnerships was held in the presence of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the United Arab Emirates, and eight selected people were honored.
The Abu Dhabi Awards are for making the UAE better
According to Amac: A local English newspaper has highlighted the importance of recognizing people who embody good nature and contribute positively to society, especially in a world that is often dominated by headlines of conflicts and challenges.
“Recognizing people who set good examples and contribute to a country in positive ways can motivate all citizens, not just the young, to lead their lives in purposeful ways.
This recognition is always meaningful to the people who receive it, and the act of bestowing it is worthy of a healthy and functioning society. The Abu Dhabi Awards are one of the ways the UAE honors people who stand up for humanity in different ways.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, on Friday in the UAE capital, honored eight people at the 11th Abu Dhabi Awards for their contributions in various fields in the UAE.
Sheikh Mohammed said: “The recipients of the Abu Dhabi Awards truly embody the timeless values of forgiveness, compassion and altruism and have positively impacted UAE society in various ways through their actions.
Since the awards were established in 2005, people from all walks of life have been nominated and honored.
For example, in 2007, according to the awards, there were more than 34,000 nominations, of which nine were eventually given the honor. In the nearly two decades since, more than a quarter of a million people from 135 countries have been nominated.
"It shows how much inspiring work is constantly being done in this country, often done quietly and unnoticed by people who make significant and selfless contributions to the greater good."
Over the years, the winners of this award have included men and women of various ages and nationalities. They have contributed in various fields such as conservation, genetics, Arabic poetry and nursing. These are people who have achieved distinction in important sectors such as education, healthcare, environment and Emirati culture.
In 2014, the late Peter Hellier, a longtime columnist for the National, was nominated for his contributions to archeology in the UAE.
This year, one of the young winners of the awards includes a 16-year-old who works to tackle bullying and ensure safety for minors online. All these are issues that need to be discussed. There are other established voices—for example, champions of education—that are also well-known.
It is a human tendency to be inspired by other people and learn from their examples, whether in peer groups or on the larger canvas. The Abu Dhabi Awards are a great example and embodiment of this. While a country like the UAE benefits from being led by a forward-looking government, it is the contributions of ordinary people who spend most of their time improving communities, which strengthen the fabric of a society, add to its prosperity and turns it into a society. A better country for everyone." This newspaper wrote at the end.
