According to Amac News: In a statement on the occasion of World Biodiversity Day, Al Dhak said that the UAE is fighting climate change through nature-based solutions, environmental protection and strengthening sustainable development in all sectors.
He calls on all stakeholders to participate in curbing biodiversity loss.
"Nature is the first line of defense to achieve economic and social development in the UAE and globally," Al Dhak emphasized.
In the last 50 years, the world has seen a staggering 69% decline in wildlife populations, mainly due to deforestation and desertification, the environment minister said.
He added that human activities have changed more than 70 percent of the non-ice-covered land on Earth, risking the loss of more wildlife and driving more species to extinction.
He explained that the UAE has 49 protected areas, full of biodiversity and endangered species.
