The Mastercard Economics Institute has announced in its latest Travel Trends 2024 report that the UAE is among the top ten global destinations.
According to Amac News: The institute said that it has shown a big change in the travel industry this year, which is characterized by a significant increase in the cost of travel and a strong growth in passenger traffic.
The report says that despite fluctuating exchange rates and varying levels of affordability, the desire to travel is greater than ever with the UAE remaining at number nine in the world's most popular destinations over the past 12 months. For UAE travelers, the three most popular destinations this summer are London, Athens and Paris.
Globally, Japan topped the list of most popular destinations last year, with Munich ranked as the top destination for this summer (June to August 2024) due to European Championship action.
In 2024, the travel sector is booming, with 9 of the last 10 days in the global cruise and airline industry taking place this year. Travelers leaving the Middle East are being more strategic about where and when they travel, and are increasingly spending time in the region closer to home.
Drawing on unique analysis of aggregated and anonymized transaction data, including Mastercard Spending Pulse and third-party data sources, the report examines key travel trends worldwide for the year and beyond.
