EU to provide €146 million in aid to Afghanistan
According to Amac News: The European Union said the EU Commissioner for International Cooperation made the announcement on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
The European Commission stressed that the assistance is to strengthen basic services and livelihoods of the Afghan people, especially women, children and vulnerable populations, including internally displaced persons, refugees, minorities and returnees.
"This aid package addresses the growing needs of the Afghan people, especially at a time when the rights of women and girls are worryingly weakened," the statement said.
The EU Commissioner for International Cooperation said the EU stands firm in its "support" for the people of Afghanistan.
He also noted that since 2021, the European Union has provided a total of 903 million euros for the basic needs of vulnerable groups in Afghanistan.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said it had requested $3 billion to help Afghanistan this year, but had received only 25 percent of the amount.
