Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company) has signed a joint study agreement with Sarawak Energy and Malaysia's clean energy solutions provider Gentari.
Masdar, Sarawak Energy and Gentari assess major solar energy project in Malaysia
According to Amac News: The purpose of this agreement is the feasibility of establishing a floating solar power plant in the Moroum Hydroelectric Power Plant reservoir in the state of Sarawak, Malaysia.
The document exchange ceremony was held at Masdar's head office in Abu Dhabi with the presence of Masdar CEO Muhammad Jameel Al Ramahi, Sarawak Energy CEO Dakot Sharbini Soheili, Gentari CEO Sushil Purohit and a number of Malaysian government officials.
According to those present at the event, floating solar projects offer many benefits to countries like Malaysia, which have a growing population and a shortage of land for agriculture, housing and industry.
According to them, placing solar power plants on water reduces the use of land, reduces water evaporation and creates synergy with hydroelectric operations.
The purpose of the feasibility study is to evaluate the potential of creating a large floating solar facility in Morvum reservoir. This assessment will include technical reviews, environmental impacts and economic feasibility to determine the ability to successfully implement the project.
During the Sarawak delegation's visit to the UAE, the delegation, led by Dakot Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Aban Haji Abdulrahman Zohari Tun Aban Haji Open, participated in a series of high-level meetings and events, especially ADIPEC.
