According to data from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), global food prices reached their highest level in 18 months in October.
FAO: World food prices hit high in October
According to Amac News: Based on the FAO report, these data show that vegetable oils have been the main cause of price increases in most basic food commodities.
The Food Price Index (FFPI), which tracks monthly changes in international prices for a basket of food commodities, hit 127.4 last month, up two percent from September.
The prices of all goods in this index increased, except for meat, among which vegetable oils recorded the largest increase with an increase of 7.3 percent.
The organization also reported a 0.8 percent rise in world grain prices in September, saying wheat prices rose on concerns about farming conditions in the northern hemisphere and after an unofficial floor price was set for Russian exports.
According to FAO information, the price of dairy products also increased by approximately two percent, which was due to the increase in demand for cheese and butter.
