Amac News: Alexander Sergeev, a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, explained that the system combines electronics and photonics for ultra-fast data processing and uses artificial intelligence methods based on optical neural networks. In this way, computer processors will perform calculations and process data at the speed of light.
The speed of light in computing means that while a regular computer may need a few milliseconds to process an operation, a computer running at the speed of light can do so instantaneously.
Sergeev added that plans are underway to develop a working prototype of the world's most powerful hybrid electronic-photonic computing system, capable of processing data at the speed of light, in the next two years.
He noted that promising Russian photonic computing systems can significantly increase the speed of solving problems by 100-1000 times, while improving energy efficiency compared to modern electronic computers with world-class processors and graphics accelerators developed by leading international companies.
