Japan's unemployment rate rose 0.1 percentage point from the previous month to 2.5 percent, according to government data released on Friday. The change was attributed to more people wanting to keep their jobs after reaching retirement age.

According to Amac News: Based on government statistics, the total number of employed people rose 0.2 percent to 67.98 million, while the number of unemployed people rose 1.8 percent to 1.71 million.
Of those who were unemployed, the number of those who voluntarily quit their jobs fell 5.4 percent to 700,000, but the number of people laid off, including those who had reached retirement age, rose 5.4 percent to 390,000.
Separate government data showed the ratio of job openings to job seekers rose 0.01 percentage points since September to 1.25, indicating there are 125 jobs available for every 100 job seekers.
