According to Amac News: Omar Al-Olameh, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Programs of the UAE, said in a meeting held on Wednesday, December 4, at the Federal National Council, that the public's fear of artificial intelligence should be eliminated. "For employees close to retirement age whose jobs can be replaced by artificial intelligence, we can consider early retirement," he added.
This action is part of several plans that the UAE has considered for the use of artificial intelligence in the economy sector.
Al-Olameh said that contrary to public concerns and previous beliefs that artificial intelligence will destroy human jobs, this technology has actually come to help people in their daily tasks and increase productivity.
He pointed to reports in 2017 that predicted 40 percent of jobs would be lost to AI by 2025, but said, "We haven't seen any of those predictions; On the contrary, many people have benefited from artificial intelligence to increase their productivity."
The UAE is currently focusing on upskilling the existing workforce to take advantage of the AI revolution and prepare them to apply emerging technologies in everyday business.
