Emirati explorer completes circumnavigation of Antarctica
According to Amac News: The mission, which took place from December 4, 2024, to January 17, 2025, using two helicopters, makes Al Hashemi the first Emirati to join the historic expedition.
The journey began at the Union Glacier Camp and ended after covering 19,050 kilometers.
The mission, which lasted more than a month, required seven years of meticulous planning to overcome logistical obstacles and harsh weather conditions in the region.
The team, led by explorer Frederik Ploussen, explored remote parts of the frozen continent and saw stunning views of large glaciers and frozen rivers, while enduring sub-zero temperatures and strong winds.
This achievement represents a significant advance in aerial exploration, underscoring the UAE's growing participation in global missions, and demonstrating the potential for long-duration flights in some of the harshest natural environments on Earth.
