Local officials of the Afghanistan acting government in Herat province and the general director of the TAPI gas pipeline project say that the work on the project is progressing at a faster pace.
Six kilometers of TAPI pipeline laid in Afghanistan
According to Amac News: Mohammad Murad Amanov, the general director of the TAPI project, said on Sunday, January 26, in a meeting with Ahmad Islamjar, the governor of Herat, that the work on the pipeline of this project is continuing in earnest.
He said that so far 6 kilometers of pipeline have been completed in Afghan soil and this process has been accelerated with close cooperation with the local administration and other relevant institutions.
Amanov also stated that this project, in addition to strengthening regional economic relations, will play an important role in providing energy and creating job opportunities in Afghanistan.
The TAPI project, which stands for Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India, is designed to transport Turkmen gas to neighboring countries and strengthen regional economic cooperation.
This project will not only help provide energy to the region, but also create numerous economic and job opportunities for the people of Afghanistan.
The project, worth an estimated $20 billion and “completed” in Turkmenistan, is capable of transporting more than 30 billion cubic meters of gas from Central Asia to South Asia, but its progress in Afghanistan has been hampered by insecurity and lack of investment over the past two decades.
The length of the TAPI gas pipeline in Afghanistan is reported to be 816 kilometers, of which only the first few kilometers began in Herat province and about one kilometer has been completed.
The first step to implement the TAPI project was taken in 1994. Its initial agreements were made in Turkmenistan in 2010, and its practical work began in Afghanistan at the end of 2015, during the republican government.
The inauguration of the project in Afghanistan took place in 2018, but its progress has faced many obstacles due to “insecurity” and some “other problems.”
