Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology is expected to have a significant impact on the economy in the UAE. The country is projected to rank third globally, after China and the United States, in the share of AI in the economy.
UAE strengthens its global leadership in AI
According to Amac News: PwC, a major British multinational financial advisory firm, estimates in a report that AI will account for about 13.6% of the UAE’s GDP by 2030, equivalent to about $100 billion.
Furthermore, AI’s share of regional economies is expected to grow between 20% and 34%, with the UAE leading the way due to its strong commitment to the development and implementation of AI.
According to a report by KPMG International Limited, the UAE’s legal framework paves the way for innovations in financial technology and digital payments.
Cybersecurity has emerged as a key factor in the digital transformation, and the UAE has introduced several data privacy laws to protect personal and organizational information.
At the government level, Abu Dhabi aims to become the world’s first AI-powered government. The city’s new strategy focuses on building a robust digital infrastructure, adopting 100% capacity government cloud computing, and fully automating and digitizing government operations.
Ahmed Jamal, Business Development Manager for NVIDIA AI Solutions at Advanced Integration, a strategic partner of NVIDIA, said the UAE was one of the first countries to launch a national AI strategy in 2017 (UAE AI Strategy), which aims to make the country a global AI hub by 2031.
Meanwhile, Samer Al-Jayousi, regional lead for AI and GenAI for Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Turkey and Africa, spoke about the UAE’s strategic approach, saying the UAE was one of the first countries in the world to implement policies governing the use of AI.
Akram Awad, CEO and Partner at Boston Consulting Group, also said that the UAE has seen a 40% increase in the number of AI professionals since 2022, reinforcing its position as a leading hub for AI talent and expertise.
