Abdullah bin Tawq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Chairman of the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), stressed the vital role of the aviation sector in the global economy, saying that in some countries it accounts for 12 to 13 percent of gross domestic product (GDP).
Aviation sector contributes over $4 trillion to global economy
According to Amac News: Speaking on the sidelines of the Global Symposium on Supporting the Implementation of ICAO 2025 and the Global Sustainable Aviation Market in Abu Dhabi, he stated that the aviation sector contributes approximately $4.1 trillion to the global economy, directly benefiting individuals, families and communities by creating job opportunities and promoting economic development.
Al Marri also noted the essential role of aviation in boosting the tourism sector, saying that 58 percent of international tourists depend on air travel.
The efficiency of the sector also allows businesses to connect with global markets, facilitates tourist access to destinations, and strengthens companies’ ability to reach customers and suppliers globally.
Al-Marri added that aviation helps reduce the distance between remote and underserved areas and urban centers, and improves access to essential services such as healthcare and education.
According to him, the sector also plays a vital role in humanitarian efforts, such as crisis response and medical evacuations, and helps overcome geographical challenges.
