According to
Amac News, Based on the UAE state news agency WAM, the initiative will be implemented by the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Charitable Foundation to develop schools and support blind and visually impaired students in Ethiopia.
The agreement for the project was signed by Mohamed Haji Al Khoury, Director General of the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, in the presence of Sheikhabu bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of State and Member of the Board of Trustees of the Zayed Charitable Foundation, and Zeinash Tayyachow, First Lady of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.
With an estimated 1.2 million blind and partially sighted people in Ethiopia, including 332,000 who are identified as blind, the initiative responds to urgent humanitarian needs and reaches rural areas with limited education and health services.
The UAE said that with the support of the Ethiopian Ministry of Education, the new schools will be equipped with advanced assistive technologies and specialized educational programs.
Thiab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan stressed that the UAE is committed to supporting people with special needs globally. He added that the initiative will help create inspiring and inclusive learning environments for blind students in Ethiopia.
Sheikh Shakhbut bin Zayed Al Nahyan also said that the initiative demonstrates the UAE’s commitment to improving communities and creating economic opportunities.
It is worth noting that the initiative builds on the success of the Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak School for the Blind, which the UAE founded last year in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia.
