According to GCC-Stat data, GCC crude oil production reached about 17 million barrels per day (mbpd) in 2023, accounting for 23.2% of total global crude oil production, despite a 6.8% decline in crude oil production in 2023 compared to the production recorded in 2022.
GCC crude oil reserves reached about 511.9 billion barrels in 2023, accounting for 32.6% of total global crude oil reserves, and recorded an average annual growth rate of 0.3% over the period 2014-2023.
GCC crude oil exports reached about 12.4 mbpd in 2023, representing 28.2% of total global crude oil exports, despite an 8.2% decline in exports in 2023 compared to the figures recorded in 2022.
GCC petroleum derivatives exports reached about 1,518.6 million barrels in 2023, representing 13.4% of total global petroleum derivatives exports, an increase of 7.1% compared to the figures recorded in 2022.
GCC countries rank second globally in petroleum derivatives exports, while petroleum derivatives imports reached 212.3 million barrels, recording an average annual growth rate of 0.1%.
Gasoline/diesel production recorded the highest rate among petroleum derivatives in 2023, reaching 660.4 million barrels, followed by gasoline at 336.2 million barrels, followed by kerosene and jet fuel at 319.4 million barrels. Production of fuel oil, naphtha and petroleum gases was recorded at 263.1, 221.6 and 103.3 million barrels, respectively.
Gasoline consumption in GCC countries reached about 336.6 million barrels in 2023, while diesel/diesel consumption reached 299.7 million barrels. Other derivatives showed various values between 34.8 and 268.3 million barrels.
In the case of natural gas, the reserves of the GCC countries reached about 44.195 billion cubic meters in 2023, representing 21.4% of the total global natural gas reserves, an increase of 0.2% compared to the figures recorded in 2022.
The natural gas exports of the GCC countries reached about 180.9 billion cubic meters in 2023, representing 13.1% of the total global natural gas exports, with an average annual growth rate of 2.5% in exports over the period 2014 to 2023.
The production of marketed natural gas in the GCC countries reached about 464.2 billion cubic meters in 2023, representing 10.8% of the total global marketed natural gas production, an increase of 1.4% compared to the figures recorded in 2022.
In renewable energy indicators, the capacity of renewable energy stations in the GCC countries reached about 10,742 MW in 2023, representing an increase of 74.7% compared to the figures recorded in 2022. The capacity has increased in recent years, especially due to the implementation of policies related to the use of renewable energy instead of fossil fuels.
The energy produced by the stations reached about 14,403 GWh in 2023, representing an increase of 72.4% compared to the figures recorded in 2022.
The electricity production of the GCC countries reached about 794.9 thousand GWh in 2023, recording an average growth rate of about 4.7% in the period 2019-2023. These figures represent a 1.2% increase compared to 2022 figures, while consumption reached 732.5 GWh, representing a 1.3% increase compared to the figures recorded in 2022.
