Turkey announces readiness to increase oil exports from Kurdistan region of Iraq
According to Amac News, based on Shafaq News report, the Turkish Energy Minister announced on Sunday, March 2, that the Ceyhan Port oil pipeline is ready for oil exports from October 4, 2023.
He added that talks between Erbil and Baghdad are continuing in this regard and both sides want the oil exports from Iraqi Kurdistan to resume.
The Turkish Energy Minister said: "We can increase the volume of oil exports and use the oil pipeline within the framework of the development route from Basra to Europe."
Bayrakdar added: "We want some of the oil transported through this pipeline to go to the Qarq Qala refinery and also to be sent via ships from Ceyhan to Turkish refineries or various refineries around the world so that this pipeline can be used at maximum capacity."
The Kurdistan Region of Iraq's oil exports through the Turkish port of Ceyhan have been suspended for about two years, and according to oil producing companies, billions of dollars have been lost to the Iraqi and Kurdistan economies as a result.
The negotiating teams of the Kurdistan Regional Government, the Iraqi Ministry of Oil, and oil producing companies have repeatedly held meetings to resume the region's oil exports.
After the Iraqi parliament voted to amend the budget law last month, the ground was prepared for the resumption of oil exports from the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
The Kurdistan Region of Iraq's oil exports were suspended on March 25, 2023, following a ruling by the Paris court that Turkey had violated oil contracts with Iraq.
