According to Amac News: The National Space Administration of China unveiled this project yesterday (Wednesday, April 24) at a conference held in Wuhan city, Hubei province, central China.
Wu Weiren, chief designer of China's lunar exploration program, explained that the International Lunar Research Base will be built in two phases.
In the first phase of this project, comprehensive scientific facilities with basic functions will be built around the South Pole of the Moon by 2035.
In the second phase of the project, a well-equipped and stable facility on a significant scale will be built around the lunar orbital station by 2045.
The International Lunar Research Station will provide a platform for long-term scientific research, work and habitation, paving the way for future human exploration of deeper space.
Wu said the moon is preparing us for future missions to Mars and other distant destinations in space.
