According to Amac News: This project will increase the container handling capacity in the South Terminal by 80% and strengthen Callao's position for global trade on the west coast of South America.
The Bicentennial Wharf Expansion Project will expand the wharf from 650 meters to 1,050 meters, making Callao one of the few ports in South America that can accommodate three ships simultaneously.
The project will increase the handling capacity from 1.5 million TEUs per year to 2.7 million TEUs, while the container yard space will also increase to a total of 40 hectares.
Along with the expansion of the dock and container handling, the project will also add advanced electrical equipment, including 15 electric cranes and 20 electric ITVs (inland transport vehicles). It is the first port terminal in the world to have such a large fleet.
In addition, the terminal now hosts the first electric truck charging station in Latin America. This 2 MW station will support DP World's fleet of electric ITVs, reduce CO2 emissions by more than 2,000 tons per year and promote sustainable energy transmission in the Peruvian market.
